Recreates the glamorous dance band style of the 1920s & 1930s for background and dancing at your corporate event, wedding or party.  Can you imagine what a crooner and dance band would sound like if they breezed into your celebration from a time machine straight out of the 1920s & 30s?. Curious? Then travel back in time with Coconut Grove, aptly named for the famous 1920s & 30s Hollywood rendezvous, “where your favourite motion picture star not only listens but dances to the music we are to give you now…”

Coconut Grove will play you 1920s Hot Jazz & 1930s Swing that's just right for background and dancing. And we're never loud. Featuring Sydney’s only truly authentic 1920s & 30s-style singer. He even brings a 1920s megaphone. We’re the only band in Sydney for your 1920s-themed events, incidentally. And Coconut Grove is staffed by the A-list of Sydney jazz stars.

So why would you trust your corporate event, wedding or private party to any other band? We offer you a choice of band sizes from trio to 6-pieces. And our singing bandleader will visit you at your Sydney venue once your booking is made to pre-arrange band set-up and running order with you - absolutely free. All part of our great musical service to ensure your event is a big success. Now, it was our American friends who invented Jazz & Swing, so they can give you the last word about Coconut Grove:

  Emma Pask

“The greatest gift to Australian Jazz Vocals in the last decade” is how James Morrison, Australia’s most awarded jazzman, describes Emma Pask.

Her talent was spotted by James Morrison during one of his regular visits to high schools when she was just 16. She first sang with his band that night and has been touring with Morrison around Australia and overseas, ever since.

While Emma’s voice and style are unique, and individually her own, her performances are reminiscent of the classic era of jazz, when swing was top of the charts. “My parents brought me up to the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and all the greats, Emma says.”

Emma has been a regular guest on national TV shows like Hey, Hey Its Saturday, the Midday Show, Good Morning Australia, the Today show, and has also sung to VIP audiences including the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Princess Mary of Denmark, and the Prime Minister of Australia.  By request, in 2006, Emma performed the Bridal Waltz for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's wedding, also performing through the evening with a swinging set of big band numbers with the Sydney All Star Big Band.

Earlier that same year, Emma was awarded the Mo Award for
“Jazz Vocalist of the year”.

She has performed to audiences up to 80,000, and sung with Don Burrows, the NZ Philharmonic, The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Barbara Morrison, the WA Symphony Orchestra, recorded with the BBC Big Band in London, at the Phillips International Jazz Festival, the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, in London at The Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, in Cape Town with the Darius Brubeck Trio, and following the enormous success of her first album, has released her second CD “This Madness Called Love”. Mid 2008 Emma will be releasing her 3rd solo Album.

James Morrison says “Whilst it’s fashionable to be a jazz singer these days, she’s the real thing!”

  James Morrison

Brilliant on trumpet, trombone, euphonium and piano, James Morrison is, by anybody’s standard, a virtuoso, in the true sense of the word.

If you’ve heard James Morrison with a small group and liked what you heard - just imagine it with twice the trumpets, twice the trombones, three times the saxophones, two vocalists and James blowing away over the top of it all!

  Jenny Knight Jazz Quartet

Take a jazz journey as vocalist Jenny Knight performs songs of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Carmen McRae to Roberta Flack with her own vocal style described as soulful blues flavoured with jazz and an unerring ability to swing.

Jen started singing in her early teens in Sydney doing theatre productions and later pop cover bands. Moving to the mountains she sang and played guitar with a folk influence. Jen sang her own original piece whilst performing in a support act for Jenny Morris. Discovering her admiration for vocalist such as Billie Holiday, Jenny began to sing jazz and blues. “This music is timeless, vocalists like McRae, Vaughan and Simone are my icons” Jenny said.

Combining the talents of musicians Neil Sagewood on keyboard, Sam Dobson on double bass and Warren Baker on drums, this quartet takes jazz standards and interprets them with their own flavour and style.
